The Legend of John Carter - "Warlord of Mars"

John Carter was an ex-Civil war soldier in the 1860's, who is miraculously
teleported to the planet Mars. His Earth body - strengthened by a lesser gravity
- is incredibly strong and athletic when pitted against the planet's inhabitants -
a group of various warrior races of many different alien species, shapes, sizes, and colors like the Tharks - a race of 15 foot tall, four-armed, green men with tusks. Filled with adventure, sword fights, dangerous creatures, and peril, the hero John Carter falls in love with beautiful red-skinned Princess Dejah Thoris, and he eventually becomes Warlord of Mars - or Barsoom as it's inhabitants call the planet. I first read these stories in comic book form when I was a young boy in the
early 1970s. A couple of years later I read the book "A Princess of Mars" written by the great author Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912 - author of many other wonderful literary works such as the classic jungle adventure story "Tarzan of the Apes."
